More than 300 people will be taking part in a charity walk today between Shropshire’s two hospitals to raise cash for the mayor’s appeal.

Councillor Kevin Guy, the mayor of Telford and Wrekin, has been raising money for his Caring For The Future Appeal, which is aimed at supporting the new Women’s and Children’s unit at the Princess Royal Hospital.

A total of 311 people are already signed up for the walk from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to the Princess Royal Hospital, which will go on a route through Uffington, Upton Magna, Walcott, Wrockwardine and Shawbirch.

Councillor Guy said: “It is absolutely fantastic that Telford & Wrekin Council staff including our apprentices, NHS staff and members of the public are joining the walk to raise money for the benefit of local children.

“I am very humbled by the time, effort and commitment everyone is putting into this and hopefully lots of money will be raised for a very worthwhile cause.

“I would like to thank each and every one of the people who are showing such wonderful community spirit and giving up their time to support the Caring For Our Future appeal.”

Other recent events to raise money for the Caring For Our Future appeal have included a charity bike ride in Telford Town Centre organised by the authority’s apprentices and a marathon bike ride from Thomas Telford’s birthplace in Dumfries and Galloway to Telford by the council’s Service and Delivery Planning Manager Jon Power.
