Shropshire property sales soar
A local firm of leading property specialists is supporting recent national figures that suggest house sales hit a three-year high in the first quarter of this year.

Shropshire-based Nock Deighton has revealed that agreed sales across its offices were up 20% on the same period last year, which comes hot on the heels of figures released by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), which reported house sales hit a three year high in the first quarter of this year, with the West Midlands experiencing the biggest increase nationally.
According to the survey conducted by RICS, the number of house sales has risen since June 2010, seeing on average each surveyor handle 17.4 sales from January to March this year. Surveyors also reported demand had improved, experiencing a net 11% rise in interest from first time buyers. The positive figures follow data from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) released that showed the number of UK house sales was 10% higher than the same month a year earlier.
Michael Nettleton, Director at Nock Deighton, said: “The findings from both RICS and HMRC are an extremely positive sign for the regional housing market. As well as the increase in sales experienced by our own team, we have also witnessed a 14% decrease in aborted purchases, which really demonstrates an increase in confidence from buyers. The increase in potential buyers enquiring and viewing properties is particularly encouraging and will hopefully help ease some of the pressure on the market.
“Shropshire is still one of the most sought-after places to live so it comes as no surprise that the West Midlands has benefitted from the biggest increase in house sales, and our rise in agreed sales is positive evidence of this.”
