Police operation underway as EDL protest in Shrewsbury

EDL supporters were gathering at The Column in London Road to stage a protest following recent media articles concerning the development of a Muslim prayer room and community centre nearby.

The policing operation will provide a proportionate response to facilitate peaceful protest and minimise disruption to members of the public going about their normal business.

Police say anyone causing trouble in the area will be dealt with swiftly and robustly.
