Two people have this morning been arrested in connection with the unexplained death of a man in Shrewsbury on Saturday night.

Man and woman arrested in Shrewsbury murder investigation

A major investigation was launched when emergency services were called to the Reabrook Avenue area of the town after a 64-year-old man was found with serious injuries at just after 10.50pm on Saturday.

Following emergency medical treatment at the scene, a short time later the man was pronounced dead by paramedics.

An area on Reabrook Avenue and near the cashpoint close to the Cineworld Cinema was sealed off while police officers carried out investigative work during the course of yesterday, this cordon has now been lifted.

Speaking about the investigation into the death on Saturday night, Detective Inspector Mark Bellamy, from CID in Shrewsbury, said:

“A significant number of officers are involved in this investigation and it is being treated as a murder enquiry.

“Work is ongoing to establish the exact cause of this death and the dead man is yet to be formally identified.

“Late last night a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder following work we carried out yesterday, while a 37-year-old woman is also in custody on suspicion of assisting an offender.

“These two individuals remain in custody in Shrewsbury this morning.

“Although arrests have been made in this enquiry, I would like to reiterate the fact that we remain keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have information that could aid our investigation into this unexplained death.

“Anyone who believes they may have information about this incident, especially anyone who saw anything unusual in the Reabrook Avenue or Cineworld Cinema area between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday night, is asked to call West Mercia Police quoting incident number 772S 180513."

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you’d rather leave information without identifying yourself.
