A 19-year-old man was last night charged with the murder of Robert Barlow in Shrewsbury on Saturday night.

A major investigation was launched when emergency services were called to the Reabrook Avenue area of the town after a 64-year-old local man was found injured at just after 10.50pm on Saturday 18 May.

Mr Barlow received emergency medical treatment at the scene, a short time later he was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Speaking this morning, DI Bellamy said:

“I can confirm that the 19-year-old man we arrested on Sunday night has been charged with the murder of Mr Barlow. He has also been charged with robbery in relation to the same incident on Saturday.

“In addition, the man has also been charged with three other robberies and one count of witness intimidation relating to incidents that occurred earlier this year.

“This man has been detained in custody overnight and will now be appearing at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court this morning.

“I can also confirm that the 37-year-old woman arrested on Sunday night on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

“Although a man has been charged with murder as a result of this investigation, I would once again like to reiterate the fact that we still remain keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have information that could relate to Mr Barlow’s death.

“In addition, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who have come forward with information so far, while I’d also like to thank local people for their understanding and support as our officers have gone about their investigative work in the Reabrook Avenue area in the past few days.

“Anyone who believes they may have further information about this incident is asked to call West Mercia Police quoting incident number 772S 180513.

“Alternatively, pleased remember that Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you’d rather pass on information without identifying yourself.”
