Detectives are appealing for sightings of a silver Toyota Hiace 300 GS panel van, registration CX06 ASV, which Georgia may have travelled in.

The 22-year-old Telford man was originally arrested at a Glasgow hotel early yesterday morning on suspicion of kidnapping 17-year-old Georgia, who has not been seen since Sunday evening.

Detectives from West Mercia Police aided by colleagues from Warwickshire Police arrested him on suspicion of murder last night after he had been brought back to Telford from Scotland.

Speaking this afternoon, Telford and Wrekin Police Commander, Superintendent Nav Malik, gave the following update about the investigation into Georgia’s disappearance:

“A significant number of officers continue to investigate Georgia’s disappearance.

“The arrest of the suspect for murder followed developments in the investigation since yesterday afternoon but for operational reasons and because we have someone in custody I am not able to give any further details about that at this time.

“I would like to stress that Georgia Williams has still not been found and achieving that is still the primary focus of our investigation. Therefore we still urgently want people to come forward and tell us if they have seen or had any contact with her since 7.30pm on Sunday when she left the family home.

“However, I can confirm that at the present time we are particularly interested in the movements of the silver Toyota Hiace 300 GS panel van, registration number CX06 ASV, between 5pm and 10.30pm on Monday night.

“We know that this vehicle was in the Wrexham area at around 5pm on Monday and that it was heading towards the main arterial routes. Then, at about 10.30pm we now know that the vehicle was at Deeside, Queensferry, Cheshire, heading north.

“Work is ongoing to piece together the vehicle’s exact movements between 5pm and 10.30pm but we are extremely keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have seen it during that time.

“We are doing all we can to follow up the information which is being provided by members of the public and I would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information for their response.

“However, at this point we really want to ask people to concentrate on the time period between 5pm and 10.30pm on Monday 27th May 2013 and I would ask that if members of the public or local businesses have their own CCTV, we would be very grateful for them to look at it and should the vehicle be seen, please contact us immediately.

“We are still continuing to do all we can to trace the whereabouts of Georgia and I would remind people that she is described as being is white, 5ft 3inches tall, slim and with long, dyed, red hair.

“She was last seen wearing a waist-length black leather jacket over a white T-shirt which has a London bus motif on it, while she was also wearing black, skinny jeans and flat, black suede slip-on shoes.”

Anyone who believes they may have information that could help us find Georgia should call the dedicated incident room on 0800 056 0944.

In addition, I’d also like to remind people that details can also be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
