Southall School set for £2m redevelopment
The final business case for an extensive £2m redevelopment of the Southall School in Dawley is set to be submitted to government by Telford & Wrekin Council.

The authority’s cabinet is being recommended to approve the submission of the final business case when it meets today.
The scheme is part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s £200m Building Schools for the Future programme, which has seen one new secondary school already completed, two more currently being built and will ultimately result in a complete transformation of the borough’s educational estate.
If Southall’s business case gets the all clear by cabinet, the remodelling will see construction of a new sports hall with changing rooms and new teaching spaces at the area in front of the school.
The project also includes the refurbishment of areas within the existing school building and work is expected to start in July, with completion in early 2014.
Shepherd Construction Ltd – which is currently building the new Ercall Wood Technology College – is likely to be appointed as main contractor for the remodelling of Southall School, in keeping with the terms of the Building Schools for the Future framework.
Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “Southall School is the latest project in our Building Schools for the Future programme to reach the stage where work is about to begin and that is really exciting for everyone connected to the school.
“The £2m that will be spent as part of this extensive remodelling – subject to cabinet approval and the funding being released by central government - will result in a much improved learning facility for the school with fantastic new sports facilities.”
