A 22-year-old man has been remanded in custody by magistrates after appearing in court charged with the murder of 17-year-old Georgia Williams from Wellington.

Man charged with murder of Georgia Williams remanded in custody

Jamie Reynolds of Avondale Road, Wellington, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court this morning.

The 22-year-old has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of 17-year-old Georgia Williams and will appear at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday.

He was arrested at a Glasgow hotel early on Wednesday on suspicion of kidnapping 17-year-old Georgia. He was later arrested on suspicion of murder after he had been brought back to Telford from Scotland.

Georgia was last seen by her parents on Sunday evening when she told them she was going to see friends.

During the search for Georgia particular interest was paid to the movements of the silver Toyota Hiace 300 GS panel van. With police appealing for sightings of the van.

Police said they believe the teenager died at an address in Wellington. The body of a female was found yesterday afternoon in woodland off the Nant-y-Garth pass near Wrexham.

West Mercia Police said the body had not been positively identified, but early indications suggested it was linked to the disappearance of Georgia Williams.

Close friends of Georgia, whose father is a serving West Mercia Police detective constable, described her as "bubbly", with a great sense of humour.

Katy Lafferty, who was Georgia's best friend, said her disappearance was "heart-breaking" and she praised the support that had been expressed by thousands of people via social media.

Georgia was a fan of AFC Telford United and worked for the club as part of the match day team. She was introduced to the club by her Grandfather and Aunt who also volunteer for the club on match days. As a tribute to Georgia, AFC Telford United will be opening the New Bucks Head Stadium at 11am today. The club will display any flowers and tributes in a designated area of the stadium. Those attending are asked to enter the car park via Haybridge Road.
