Telford & Wrekin Council recognise the work of volunteers
Telford & Wrekin Council is getting out into the borough to recognise the work carried out by volunteers as part of National Volunteers’ Week running until 7 June.

Senior Management Team and Cabinet Members will be visiting various voluntary organisations and volunteers in order to find out more about what they do, how their work positively affects the community and recognise and thank them for what they do.
While the purpose of volunteering is mainly to help people, which could be by caring for someone who cannot care for themselves or even by helping to organise and run activities for young people, the volunteers find there is added reward for themselves.
Most volunteers will admit they get a huge sense of satisfaction and personal achievement from volunteering. In addition, volunteering offers the opportunity to learn new skills, meet and interact with a wide range of new people and potentially lead people into new and exciting careers.
Around 500 volunteers contribute towards the operation of council services including Snow wardens, Street champions, Walking Buses, Reading groups and helping within schools.
As part of events to mark National Volunteers’ Week Telford & Wrekin Council Managing Director Richard Partington will be meeting parents and staff at the Sutton Hill Families Project on Thursday.
Councillor Kuldip Sahota, Leader of the Council, will be visiting Age UK along with Councillor Charles Smith where they will meet staff before going to Hornbeam Day Centre in Arleston.
Councillor Sahota said: “It would be impossible for us to visit all volunteers in the borough and thank you in person as there are just so many of you, so I would like to take this opportunity to offer not only my thanks, but the thanks of all of us here at Telford & Wrekin Council for the absolutely phenomenal job you do.
“There are so many services in the borough that would not be able to operate without your help and dedication and wherever possible we here at the council will continue to offer our support and guidance to maintain and build on the army of volunteers that we already have.
“I myself am certainly looking forward to getting out into the community over National Volunteers Week and meeting people who are really making a difference in the borough. Thank you all.”
