Woman rescued from fire in Telford
An 82-year-old woman was rescued following a fire in Telford early this morning.

The woman was rescued from the heavily smoke-logged lounge by her son at a chalet on Breton Park in Muxton.
Fire crews from Wellington and Telford attended the fire which was contained within the lounge at around 4.45am.
Station Manager John Griffiths from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
“The women’s son, who was asleep in his bedroom, woke and could smell burning. He went to investigate and, on opening the lounge door, was faced with a wall of thick black smoke. He carried his mother out of the room and called the fire service. His prompt actions undoubtedly saved the woman’s life. It appears she was smoking a cigarette and fell asleep. The cigarette started a smouldering fire in the settee which smoke-logged the room, she is very lucky to be alive.”
Station Manager Griffiths warned that smoking materials are a common cause of fires and stressed the importance of taking care when using and disposing of cigarettes.
