Marches School signs contracts on old Fairholme site
The Marches School in Oswestry has today completed the purchase of the old Fairholme site.

The building, previously owned by Shropshire Council, is now the property of The Marches School and funding secured earlier in the year will enable the extensive re-development work to take place, ahead of the opening of the new Sixth Form in September.
Oswestry building firm, Jones Brothers have been successful in winning the contract to carry out the work. Chris Jones, Managing Director of Jones Brothers commented, “We have worked on several projects with The Marches School over the years and are delighted to have been awarded the tender. We are looking forward to starting work and proud to be part of this significant project in the school’s future development.”
Work will commence on the building imminently and sustainable development is integral to the school’s plans for the building, with eco-friendly materials being used across all phases of the re-development.
The first major work to be completed will be a new eco-friendly roof, using A+ graded roof panels to ensure maximum insulation and minimal environmental impact. Phase 1 will follow this and will include accommodation for the new Sixth Form, comprising several fully-equipped classrooms and a modern common room on the upper ground floor. Phase 2 will incorporate a brand new reception area and new meeting and conference facilities on the ground floor of the building. Development work will also include a new one-way drive through system, pathways and lighting around the site, increasing student safety and security.
Mrs Sarah Longville, Headteacher at The Marches School commented, “Our ultimate goal has always been to purchase the site and we are delighted to have now exchanged contracts. Building work can now commence and we look forward to welcoming the team from Jones Brothers on site.”
Work on the roof will commence immediately, with Phase 1 and 2 being completed by 1st September. Following phases will take place directly after the site is opened on 1st September and will include further classroom space and study areas.
