The RAF Cosford 75th Anniversary Air Show taking place today is set to be a bumper year for visitor numbers, with advanced ticket sales selling more than double the figure of last year.

Bumper turnout expected at RAF Cosford Air Show

One of the key themes to this year’s Air Show is the celebration of RAF Cosford’s 75th Anniversary, the flying display will begin with a special flypast of aircraft associated with the history of the base.

In addition to the 5½ hour flying display, a wide variety of other exhibitors, stands, arena displays, bands and charities will also attend the show. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy everything from the Cosford Military Wives Choir and a fair ground, to aviation artwork specialists and a host of conservation and wildlife groups.

Visitors to the show might also spot TV presenter Carol Vorderman. Carol will be supporting engineering exhibits. The focus of the displays is to develop an interest and educate young people in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) to inspire the future generation of technical-minded individuals through the medium of interactive activities.

Last year more than 38,000 people attended the air show and organisers are anticipating another bumper turn-out advising ppeople that have purchased tickets in advance to turn out for the show early.

Extra rail services are being added for the event stopping at Cosford railway station situated right next to the airfield.

Air Show spokesman Amanda Butcher said: “With the great British weather finally emerging this week, we are preparing for potentially the largest Air Show we’ve held over recent years and therefore encourage members of the public to exploit the extra services on offer from Arriva Trains Wales. We hope that the weather forecast stays in our favour and that everybody attending this year has a truly splendid family day out.”

Tickets cost £25 with free car parking and free admission for all under-16s accompanied by an adult. Profits made from the RAF Cosford Air Show are donated to local and service charities.
