Wellington Community to form Georgia Williams Trust
Community representatives in Wellington have come together to form The Georgia Williams Trust, a new charity to help oversee fundraising and create a lasting long term legacy to the teenager – in keeping with her family’s wishes.

17-year-old Georgia died at an address in the town last month and a man has since appeared in court and remanded in custody, charged with her murder.
Since then, a large number of individual and group fundraising efforts have already started and Georgia’s family have requested that a single organisation is formed to make it easier for people to donate and to guide how the money is spent.
The Georgia Williams Trust will be made up of representatives from several local organisations, including New College, Ercall Wood Technology College, West Mercia Police, 1130 Wrekin Squadron Air Training Corps, AFC Telford United, Telford & Wrekin Council and Wellington Town Council as well as representatives of young people who have already been fundraising.
Georgia’s life included being head girl at Ercall Wood, a member of the student council at New College, part of the matchday safety team at AFC Telford United and as a Cadet Corporal with 1130 Squadron, Air Cadets.
The Trustees of the charity will include Scarlett Williams, Georgia’s sister and Steve Millington, a close friend who has raised in excess of £2300 already towards a memorial bench for Georgia. Chaired by Inspector Richard Langton, the Trustees will also represent organisations which were significant to Georgia.
Inspector Langton said, “We’ve taken a big step today to get The Georgia Williams Trust up and running, and while there remains a lot of work to complete we are conscious that many people are already fundraising now and we want the Trust to be able to support those initiatives as soon as possible.
“We also want to work closely with Georgia’s family to create a legacy through which she will always be remembered, and to provide opportunities to young people who may have been inspired by her.
“In the next few days and weeks we will be creating the financial structure, as well as setting up social media feeds and developing a website to make it easy for people to contact the charity and donate.”
Georgia’s father Steve Williams said: “This is very much what we as a family want to see happen. The work that has been done by everyone in raising money to create a legacy and celebrate Georgia’s life has been phenomenal and we have been deeply touched by it.
“We wanted to be sure that everyone who wants to donate gets the chance to do so and setting up a charitable trust was the best way to go forward.
“We are very grateful for everything that people have done and I would urge all those who have raised money to put it into The Georgia Williams Trust as soon as it is fully established.”
