Police issue new appeal over fatal collision near Bridgnorth
Police investigating a collision in which an elderly husband and wife died, are trying to trace the occupants of a Honda Civic which may have been overtaken by the couple’s car shortly before the crash.

Officers are continuing to piece together the circumstances which led up to the tragedy on the A458 Bridgnorth to Stourbridge road at Wootton, near Bridgnorth just after 2.30pm on Friday, June 7.
The couple’s black Ford Mondeo Zetec was travelling towards Bridgnorth when involved in a collision with a grey Audi A4 TDI coming in the opposite direction. They were named on Friday as John Hodgkiss, 82, and his 79-year-old wife Betty of Bilston Road, Tipton, West Midlands.
Mr Hodgkiss died at the scene and Mrs Hodgkiss, who was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, died the following evening.
Police Constable Lee Barton, one of the investigating officers, said today: “We have spoken to a number of people who have been able to supply helpful information. Several have mentioned a blue Honda Civic which was in the line of traffic behind the collision.
“It’s thought a man and a woman were in this vehicle and that it may have been overtaken by the black Mondeo just before the collision happened. I would ask the occupants to contact the police at Shrewsbury by calling 101 or 0300 333 3000 as they may well be able to assist.
“We are also appealing to anyone else who saw what happened or the circumstances leading up to the collision, to get in touch.”
An inquest was opened by the Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery on Friday and adjourned to a future date.
