Police investigate sexual assault in Hollinswood

Police in Telford are investigating after a sexual assault was reported in Hollinswood on Monday.

At around 9.30pm on Monday a 27-year-old woman – walked towards the town centre past the Downton Court flats when she was grabbed by an unknown man. The man dragged the woman into a communal area of the flats and then sexually assaulted her.

Following the assault the man fled the scene and the woman then made her way to the McDonalds restaurant in the town centre where she reported the incident to a member of the public who called the police.

However, before police officers arrived the distressed victim left McDonalds and made her way back over the footbridge towards Hollinswood but thankfully she was then located by officers a short time later.

Detective Inspector Billy Scott, from CID in Telford, said:

“The investigation into this incident is ongoing and we continue to work with the victim to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this assault.

“A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the assault but he has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything that could be linked to this incident, especially anyone who may have seen the victim on the footbridge to the town centre after the assault.

“We believe the route she took to the town centre may have been quite busy on Monday as it was a nice evening and it would still have been light when she made her way from Hollinswood to the town centre and back again.

“The victim describes the offender as being black, aged between 25 and 30, as being around 5ft 4inches tall, with an average build and as wearing a baseball cap, dark coloured jogging bottoms and dark coloured trainers.

“Anyone who believes they may have information that could be linked to this incident is asked to contact officers in CID in Telford on 101, quoting incident number 579S 170613."

Information can also be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
