Telford & Wrekin Shaping Places consultation gets underway
Local people are being asked to get involved in the Shaping Places Local Plan which will set out a vision for future development in the borough of Telford & Wrekin.

The consultation on the Strategy & Options Document began last Monday and will be open until Friday 26 July, with two public sessions taking place on Wednesday 26 June at Oakengates Theatre @ The place between 11am and 1pm, then 6pm to 8pm.
The Shaping Places Local Plan: Strategy & Options document details how the Council will support growth, job creation and new housing, maximising on the investment already going into new schools, infrastructure and the Southwater project to enhance local communities and deliver sustainable development in the borough up to 2031.
People who live, work and visit the borough of Telford & Wrekin are being encouraged to comment on the Strategy and Options document which has been produced following engagement with key stakeholders, businesses, parish and town councils and partners.
The plan will set out the scale and location of new development and priorities and policies for development in relation to housing, green space, shops, businesses, transport and community facilities.
The Council wants to make Telford a “destination of choice” to live, work, visit and spend leisure time by creating more jobs, sustainable communities and great leisure, tourism and education facilities.
There are a number of ways in which the public can feedback, including online and in person. The Strategy and Options document and feedback questionnaire can be viewed and completed at www.telford.gov.uk/shapingplaces.
The public sessions are being held on Wednesday 26 June at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place take place from 11am to 1pm and from 6pm to 8pm.
Those attending can listen to a short presentation, view the Strategy & Options document, visit stands on different topics covered in the plan, ask any questions and make comments.
For people unable to make it to an open session or access the information online, the Strategy & Options document will be available in all local libraries, at Business & Planning First Point within Wellington Civic Offices (weekdays 8.30am-5.30pm), and at First Point Telford within Addenbrooke House (weekdays 8.30am-5.30pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm).
Councillor Charles Smith, cabinet member for Housing, Development and Borough Towns, said: “We’re now at the stage where we want to get the views of the public to make sure we are developing in the right areas and in the right way.
“Stakeholders and partners have been vital to the development but now we are taking the document out into the public arena to make sure our vision matches that of the residents, employees and visitors to the borough.
“I would ask people to view the document and judge for yourself if our Local Plan is going to serve you positively not only now, but also in the future.”
Following the consultation a draft Local Plan will be produced and consulted on further in the New Year. The final stage is approval by an external inspector and adoption by the Council.
