Cap and gown ceremony for Shrewsbury students
More than 90 higher education students were recognised at Shrewsbury College of Art & Technology’s annual cap and gown ceremony last week.

Graduates came together for the Higher Awards Ceremony, which has become a major event in the College’s calendar. The ceremony was held at St Chad’s Church and was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Shrewsbury. Business Board chairman Mandy Thorn was the keynote speaker at the event. College staff and Governors attended the celebrations alongside friends and families of the graduating students.
“Shrewsbury doesn’t have a university college or higher education centre so our links with universities and other bodies are an invaluable part of the town and county’s educational structure,” said Marketing Manager at Shrewsbury College, Charmian Turner.
“This is the 17th year we have held a degree ceremony and in that time we have honoured thousands of Shropshire people who have gained HE qualifications. Some come straight from school and study full-time and others fit in part-time study around their work or family commitments.”
“These people demonstrate that there is no need to go away to university or to spend a fortune on student loans. You can work towards a degree or other HE qualification right here.”
