Firefighters tackle large fire at Grinshill Woods
Firefighters from across Shropshire were called to a large fire at Grinshill Woods yesterday evening.
The fire on the cliff face at Grinshill Woods was reported to emergency services at around 8pm last night.
A large area of trees, gorse and woodland caught fire measuring approximately 400m x 300m of area.
Firefighters faced difficulty in accessing the blaze. Crews used beaters to attack the fire from top of hill whilst further crews at the bottom used defensive firefighting to protect a cottage.
Over 40 firefighters with pumps from Wem, Shrewsbury, Hodnet, Telford, Tweedale and Prees, Incident Support Units from Market Drayton, Tweedale, Newport and Whitchurch, and four operational officers were called to the fire.
One firefighter was taken to hospital after sustaining an injury after falling at the scene.
Crews worked through the night tackling the blaze and are expected to remain at the scene today as they continue to fight the fire.
