Supporters are being urged by police to have a good time at this afternoon’s soccer match featuring Turkish champions Galatasaray at Shrewsbury.

Policing operation in force for Galatasaray's visit to Shrewsbury

West Mercia Police will have an operation in place for the friendly with a high visibility police presence.

Chief Inspector Paul Moxley, who is in charge of the operation, said: “We would warn the minority who might be looking to make trouble that it will not be tolerated and anyone intending to disrupt the day will be dealt with swiftly and robustly by our officers.

“We will not allow irresponsible behaviour to spoil the match for true football supporters or disturb local residents going about their normal business.”

It is the first match of Galatasaray’s pre-season tour and the Turkish side are in England to take part in the Emirates Cup competition in London alongside Arsenal, FC Porto and Napoli.
