Young drivers speeding in Oswestry face having cars seized

Police in Oswestry are threatening to seize cars if young motorists gathering on an Oswestry car park continue to drive in a dangerous and anti-social manner.

The warning follows complaints received by local police from residents in the Gatacre Avenue area.

They say drivers meeting up on the car park at the top of the street are travelling at speed putting them and others at risk.

Police Community Support Officer Hannah Breeze, a member of the Oswestry Town Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “To get to the car park, you have to go through a residential area which has a sharp bend and narrow roads.

“When we patrol the area, this is one of the key issues of concern when residents speak to us. These incidents are happening from 6pm onwards on various days.

“If it continues, those responsible risk having their cars seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act. We have spoken to some drivers and given words of advice.

“We will be monitoring the situation and if they fail to heed the advice, then we have no choice but to take tougher action.”

PCSO Breeze said that not only were the motorists compromising safety, they were also causing a disturbance and nuisance.

She added: “We will continue to work with residents to overcome this problem. If people make a complaint, I would urge them to try and provide registration numbers for the offending cars.”
