Police seek man following racist incident in Telford

Police have appealed for help to identify this manThe incident occurred at the Asda Living store on Wrekin Retail Park in Arleston on Sunday 30 June.

At just after 2pm, as the victim – a 28-year-old Asian man – was looking at DVDs an unknown man approached him. This man is described as being white and around 40-years-old.

Without warning the man began to verbally abuse the victim – abuse that quickly made reference to the race of the victim.

The abuse continued for a short time before the man was then asked to leave the store.

A police spokesman said:

“This is an extremely unusual incident and one that left the victim feeling very distressed as nothing like this has ever happened to him before.

“He was minding his own business when the incident occurred and it appears to be completely unprovoked.

“We have today released an image of a man we want to speak to about this incident as we believe he may be a key witness in terms of helping us established exactly what happened.

“The man captured on the CCTV, or anyone who knows him is asked to contact police officers in Telford on 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 300S 300613.

“Alternatively, please remember that Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 088 555 111 if you’d rather pass on information without identifying yourself.”
