Telford school ranks among best in England
One of Shropshire's newest Academy schools has been placed in the top 20 per cent in the country for the turnaround in its GCSE results.

Every school in the country has been ranked according to how much progress it has made in improving its GCSE results between 2009 to 2012 by SSAT - the representative organisation for schools.
Lakeside Academy in Stirchley, Telford, previously The Lord Silkin School, has qualified as one of the top 20 percent of schools in England by improving results year-on-year by at least 17 percentage points overall.
Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT, said other schools could learn from The Lakeside Academy’s success.
She said: “The Lakeside Academy should be congratulated for its stunning achievement in improving its GCSE results. It has proved itself to be one of the best schools in the country at improving GCSE outcomes for its students.
“These results are testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, teachers and leadership teams and a vindication of their belief in high expectations, good teaching and ambition for every young person.”
She added The Lakeside Academy understood the value of ensuring all young people performed to the best of their ability.
Academy Principal Trevor Goddard said: “We are delighted to once again be ranked in the top 20 per cent of schools in England for our rapidly improving GCSE results. It is the icing on the cake after the transition to an Academy and ahead of the start of work for our new campus in Stirchley.
“I'm very proud of the efforts of our students and our staff, who have consistently made progress in the last three years. Each year we have raised the bar and our students have shown that they are among the best in the UK.”
The Lakeside Academy will move to a nearby site in 2015 as part of the new Lakeside Learning Community which includes a primary school, nursery and 100-place sixth-form centre. The plans include a new sports facility, with floodlit artificial turf pitches.
