Work is due to start this week on the installation of a £200,000 aerial ropes course in Telford Town Park as part of the broader regeneration of the town centre.

Work to start on £200,000 aerial ropes course in Telford

The course will be operated and marketed by Closer To The Edge Ltd, who are entering into a partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council to deliver the ropes course.

The course and associated outdoor learning provision will create up to 11 jobs, which will be a combination of full time and part time staff.

Closer To The Edge delivers active outdoor learning which is accessible to all, providing people with a blend of health and fitness education, personal and team development, challenge and fun in a secure but engaging outdoor environment.

It already operates two ropes courses in West Bromwich and Wolverhampton and services the operational and marketing needs of two further courses in Bournemouth and Taunton.

Telford is one of four courses being built in 2013, all of which will use the Closer To The Edge brand.

Proposed prices for members of the public to use the ropes course are £10 per person pay and play, £11 per half day and £19 per full day for youth organisations, £25 per half day and £45 per half day for corporate/organisations. Discounts are available for holders of the Telford Loyalty Card.

Company director Mel Ellis said: “Telford Town Park provides a superb location for our brand of outdoor learning and the Telford community will benefit greatly from having access to such a facility.”

Closer To The Edge already promotes their courses through their website which has an online booking system in place.

Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “This is a fantastic new facility for the Town Park and everyone is very excited at working with Closer To The Edge to develop the facility.

“This is just one of a number of exciting improvements being made in the park over the course of the next few months. We have already launched our new sensory garden and inclusive play area.

“The Town Park is a fantastic day out for the whole family and one of the jewels in Telford’s crown – it’s a real asset to the borough and something we are committed to making the very most of.”
