Telford & Wrekin Council launches new award scheme

The Telford Tommy’s recognise young people who have made a difference to their community or improved and enriched their own or others’ lives.

The scheme is the brainchild of the Telford and Wrekin Young People’s Forum and the Youth Participation Steering Group.

The aim of the scheme is for the children and young people who have been nominated and who fit the relevant category to all receive a certificate.

One outstanding young person or group will be the first name put up in a newly established Walk Of Fame in Telford Town Park.

The Walk Of Fame will be a permanent installation near to the multi use games area of the Town Park. In future, the name of all special, high profile award winners in the borough will be included on the Walk Of Fame.

This certificate will have been signed by Laura Johnston, Director of Children and Family Services at Telford & Wrekin Council, and Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families.

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “I am delighted that we are able to launch the Telford Tommy’s which is going to provide us with a wonderful way of recognising the efforts and achievements of our children and young people.
