An elderly man was taken to hospital last night following a severe house fire at Hook-a-Gate near Shrewsbury.

The man was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out in a semi-detached property at Hook-a-Gate just before midnight.

Firefighters from Shrewsbury, Minsterley and Telford attended the blaze. They used jets and breathing apparatus to put out the fire which was extinguished just after 1am.
