Shrewsbury MP welcomes A&E Department funding
Daniel Kawczynski MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham has welcomed the announcement of new funding to help Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust deal with any additional demand on services that might occur this winter.

The Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, announced that £4,000,000 will be given to the A&E departments within Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust area to ensure it can provide a good service to everyone that needs it this Christmas.
This comes in addition to a long term plan by the Health Secretary to deal with the pressures on A&E such as having a named GP accountable for care, investment in new technology to ensure patient records are shared between hospitals and family doctors and more money for social care.
Commenting Daniel Kawczynski MP said:
“For the hardworking NHS staff that serve my constituents this extra money will be a welcome boost this winter, when A&E departments come under most pressure.
“Once again we are seeing a positive outcome for hardworking people from our decision to increase NHS spending, spending opposed by the Labour party.
“I will be keeping in touch with the Shropshire CCG and the Chief Executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital trust to ensure this additional funding is spent as efficiently and effectively as possible.”
Shropshire MP’s to Discuss Future of Health Services
News of the extra funding comes as Shropshire MPs come together this week to discuss the future of health services within Shropshire with health officials.
Daniel Kawczynski, Philip Dunn, Owen Paterson and David Wright will join forces on Friday to quiz health authority chiefs over the planned reconfiguration of Shropshire health services. The move follows an announcement from Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust that they are to engage with the public over the next six to nine months over the future of accident and emergency care within the County.
MP’s have also invited representatives from the Hospital Trust, Shropshire Council, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Community Health Trusts, Health Watch, NHS England and the West Midlands Ambulance, to join in the discussions.
Daniel Kawczynski said:
“The coming together Shropshire MP’s and representatives from all areas of health services shows the strength of feeling on this very emotive subject. MP’s want to be as fully informed as possible and this meeting will provide an opportunity for them to question the rationale behind this review and also highlight the concerns that their constituents have during this period of uncertainty.
I am very much hoping that the meeting will provide us all with a greater understanding of what to expect in the months ahead and ensure that we have an opportunity to feed into the decision making process to ensure that we have the best care possible for the people of Shropshire.”
