New million-pound dairy unit unveiled in Shropshire
A new million-pound dairy unit in Shropshire milking 1,200 cows and employing six fulltime members of staff will be officially unveiled by Owen Paterson MP today.
The opening marks a significant investment for the Sansaw Estate, just north of Shrewsbury.
Run by MD James Thompson, the dairy unit is expected to produce more than five million litres of milk each year from cows which are reared outdoors all year round.
“This is the culmination of five years of planning and hard work,” said estate MD James Thompson. “But we are very much at the beginning of the journey and most of the hard work is still to come.
“We are hugely grateful to the community for their support in this project as well as the dedication of our staff members for making this happen.
“Naturally I am also delighted that Owen Paterson is coming to officially unveil the dairy, particularly given his commitments elsewhere.”
James took over the reins at Sansaw from his father, Robin, in 2008, after serving in Afghanistan with the Royal Marines, and having completed a degree in Rural Land Management. His is married to Asa and has four sons.
