Telford box road improvements receive funding boost
The Department for Transport has today announced a further £1.1 million funding allocation for Telford & Wrekin Council and its work to improve the box road and surrounding network.

Telford & Wrekin Council is one of only 14 local authorities to receive the additional funding for transport improvements through the Government’s pinch point fund.
The funding is specifically for work to Malinslee Roundabout which forms part of the box road scheme and falls within the first phase of work along with St Quentin Gate.
The works will be completed by the end of January in time for the opening of the new ASDA store and Southwater developments.
The £11.8m scheme will make the town centre a safer place for pedestrians and cyclists, improve traffic flows and access between the £250m Southwater development and Telford Shopping Centre.
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for Transport, said: “I’m delighted that we have been successful in securing further funding from the Department for Transport for the box road scheme.
“This is a major scheme for the area, which will improve access to Telford town centre, £7.8 million of which is now funded by the Department for Transport and reflects the strong national reputation that Telford has for delivering major projects and transformation.
“The scheme very much fits in with the aim of the Southwater development in creating a more traditional town centre feel and I’m pleased that we have so much support in delivering these major projects.”
