Achievements celebrated at Children in Care Awards
The achievements of children and young people in care have been celebrated at a special awards ceremony.

Over 150 children and young people, who are either in care or have left care, from across Telford and Wrekin attended this year’s ceremony which was held at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place.
Children and young people were recognised in a range of categories including Personal Achievement, Being Involved, Making Positive Changes, Helping Others, Leisure & Art and Educational Achievement. There was also a “Best Shot” Award and the “Hot Shot” Award for outstanding achievement.
This year’s ceremony, called Hot Shots, was hosted by two young people in care. One of them said: “It was great to host Hotshots; you get to see so many young people in care achieving so much.
“Hosting allowed me to actually meet these people and congratulate them on their fantastic achievements, it makes you proud to be a child in care in Telford.”
They introduced on stage a range of representatives of Telford & Wrekin, including the Borough Mayor Councillor Leon Murray, Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People & Families, and Managing Director Richard Partington.
Those attending were entertained by a “flash mob” of dancers, which comprised some of the children and young people attending the ceremony.
Councillor Watling said: “This awards ceremony is a celebration of the success and achievements of children and young people who are either in the care of Telford & Wrekin Council or have recently left care.
“It is a time to acknowledge that, regardless of circumstances, these children and young people work hard, think of others, get involved and achieve great things.
“The Awards Ceremony is our opportunity to acknowledge this and to congratulate them.
“We have and continue to, in these difficult times for local government services, put the children and young people in greatest need at the centre of our priorities.”
