Appeal following spate of burglaries in Oswestry and Ellesmere
Shropshire’s senior detective is urging people to tighten up on their home security following a spate of burglaries in the Oswestry and Ellesmere areas.

During the last two weeks of September, homes were burgled in Welshampton, Tetchill, Larch Close and The Trench in Ellesmere and in Beatrice Street, Elson Road, Hampton Fields and Hampton Rise in Oswestry. Jewellery, cash, electrical goods and power tools were among the items stolen.
Detective Chief Inspector Pete Davies said the recent surge of breakins in the north of the county served as a warning to residents across the whole of Shropshire that opportunistic burglars may become more active with the onset of darker evenings.
He said: “Household burglaries have been falling in Shropshire for several years, in line with the trend across West Mercia as a whole. However, there has been a recent spate of incidents in the Oswestry and Ellesmere areas and it is important people are aware of this.
“If people are informed about a burglary near their own home, they are more likely to be security conscious and to tighten up on basic protective measures.”
DCI Davies said there was no cause for alarm but urged people to be on their guard and to carryout simplistic security precautions to help protect their homes and other property.
Extra police patrols are being maintained in areas suffering recent burglaries.
