New escalators unveiled at Shrewsbury shopping centre
Shrewsbury’s Darwin Shopping Centre has unveiled a set of four state of the art new escalators costing over £300,000.

The Darwin Centre’s four new parallel escalators, run at a speed of just over one mile an hour and are fitted with energy saving sensors so that they slow down if no-one is on them.
They have also been fitted with transparent sides to enable customers to see the inner workings of the machinery.
The state-of-the-art Turkish-made escalators are popular throughout Europe and the Middle East.
Kevin Lockwood, Manager of the Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres, said: “We are delighted that the new escalators are in and working smoothly and linking the different levels of the Darwin Centre and the town centre and its shops for people using the bus station.
“The old escalators had been there for over 20 years and which must have transported literally millions of people through the centres and into the town.
“Taking them out and installing new ones has been a difficult and complex operation requiring precision fitting and engineering and we are grateful to our customers and tenants for their patience and hope they enjoy using the new escalators.”
The refurbishment has also extended to the Pride Hill Centre where new tiling has been laid on the first floor and this will be extended to the lower floors next year.
Kevin Lockwood added: “In recent months we have seen major new openings such as The Entertainer and Hotter Shoes and major refits for stores such as Vision Express, Shoe Zone and this adds up to a vote of confidence in the town and the Shrewsbury Shopping Centres.
“We see Shrewsbury as very much a destination town that people want to come and visit and one that has a rich and varied retail offer and the access to that retail offer is important and so is the decor.”
