Residents to get invoved in Hinkshay Road archaeological dig
Residents in Telford are being offered the chance to get involved in an archaeological dig which starts today and is being run by staff from Telford Town Park and Nexus Heritage.

The dig is at the former site of the Stone Row houses off Hinkshay Road, which is thought to have potential historical significance.
The site is in the heart of the Town Park and the park and the Nexus team have been seeking volunteers to get involved in the dig between 10am and 4pm each day until Sunday.
The dig will span over four days with Thursday and Friday focusing on training. Volunteers can still book onto participate via Catherine Penney on 01952 384776 but spaces are now very limited.
It is hoped the dig will reveal the exact position of the houses and uncover artefacts related to those who lived there.
Days three and four will be open to the public to come along and view what is happening and to ask questions of on-site heritage experts.
Telford & Wrekin Council is also keen for members of the public who have memories of the Stone Row houses to attend and pass on their stories.
The Stone Row houses were built in the 1840s to house the local workforce. All the houses were demolished in the 1960s along with a Church of England Mission Chapel also dating from the 1800s.
Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet lead for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “This is a great opportunity for residents to get involved in a real life archaeological dig and explore a piece of Telford’s history.
“There are already some interesting stories out there about the site in question and we are hoping that the dig will unearth quite a few more.
“We are really keen to hear from anyone with memories of the houses or even anyone who lived in them when they were younger.”
