Two killed as car and lorry collide near Tong

The collision happened at around 2.20pm this afternoon on a stretch of road between Albrighton and Tong.

The two victims were occupants of the car and pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver escaped injury but was treated for shock.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Sadly, it quickly became apparent to crews that despite their efforts nothing could be done to save two patients travelling in the car. They were confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the lorry was assessed at the scene and later released.”

A police spokesperson said: “At the moment, we are trying to establish exactly what happened. We are appealing to anyone who saw the collision or the circumstances leading up to it, to call the police on 101”.

The A41 was closed while the emergency services worked at the scene. Diversions were set up and traffic prevented from joining the A41 northbound at junction 3 on the M54.

The Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery has been informed of the deaths.
