A man has suffered head injuries after being assaulted by a group of men in Wellington at the weekend.

Man suffers head injuries following disorder in Wellington

The incident occurred on and around Church Street in Wellington sometime between 2.15am and 2.40am on Saturday.

Police say several pockets of disorder broke out near the Tender Fried Chicken takeaway and in one of these incidents it appears that a 20-year-old man was assaulted.

The victim twice tried to run from the men but each time they caught up with him and punched and kicked him a number of times.

A police spokesman said: “As a result of this incident the victim was rushed to hospital in Telford before then being transferred to Shrewsbury.

“Although initially there were serious concerns about his injuries the victim is now thought to be making good progress. He has, however, suffered cuts and grazes to his head and body, a broken nose and has also lost a significant amount of blood.

“Officers investigating this incident are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the disorder or anyone who may know the identity of any of the individuals involved.

“Police are currently studying CCTV footage from the cameras around Wellington to establish whether this has captured any of the disorder that occurred.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police in Telford on 101, quoting incident number 89S 261013 or information can be passed on anonymously by call the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
