Prolific Shrewsbury burglar jailed for six years
A prolific house burglar from Shrewsbury was today jailed for six years.

Robert Leslie Jamieson, 45, of Crewe Street, Shrewsbury was sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court today for four burglary offences committed over a single night in May.
He broke into homes in the Sutton Farm and Springfield area of the town while the occupants were asleep.
Jamieson was arrested after he disturbed residents at one of the addresses in the early hours. He was confronted and made off but details given to the police led to a quick arrest.
Detective Chief Inspector Pete Davies, head of Shropshire CID, today welcomed the sentence on a man with a long history of breaking into homes.
“Jamieson has inflicted misery on many families going back over the years. He has been responsible for dozens of offences, including this latest spate when four offences were committed in a single night.
“Thankfully, he was confronted by one of his victims who was able to provide an excellent description. As a result, within a matter of hours, one of our officers, Detective Constable Steve Davies arrested Jamieson at his home, recovering some of the stolen property.”
He said Jamieson preyed on the old and vulnerable – one of his latest victims was in her nineties and living alone. “This man broke into homes while people were asleep running the risk of being challenged and possible physical confrontation. Finding an intruder in your home during the dead of night is a horrifying experience, especially for the elderly.
“We are very grateful for the assistance provided by members of the public in this case. An early call to the police with a good description of the offender, enabled us to make good progress and to quickly identify the suspect. He was under arrest and in custody within about 10 hours of committing the offences.
“We would always urge people to contact the police if they see or hear anything suspicious. Call us on 101 so we can make early checks, and if you think a crime is in progress or it’s an emergency situation, call 999.”
DCI Davies added that people should remain vigilant and security conscious, especially as the dark nights of winter traditionally see an increase in burglaries.
“The important thing to remember is to keep a light on in the home while out for the evening to give the impression someone is in. Also, make sure all windows, doors, including conservatories, are locked and secure.”
