Firefighters tackle chip shop blaze in Shrewsbury
Firefighters yesterday tackled a fire at Arkies Fish Bar in north Shrewsbury.
The fire involving a fryer broke out just after 6.30pm at the take-away on Whitchurch Road.
Two fire appliances from Shrewsbury and police attended the scene.
Sentinel Gardens was closed to traffic for a time along with the neighbouring Premier Store which was evacuated as a precaution.
One local resident said they could see thick black smoke pouring from the building with cars slowing down on the Whitchurch Road as smoke drifted across and reduced visibility.
