Telford & Wrekin residents to receive extra recycling bin
Homes in Telford & Wrekin are set to see changes to the way their waste and recycling is collected.

Telford & Wrekin Council has selected Veolia Environmental Services to manage its waste and recycling services by awarding a contract which puts the emphasis on improving the service for residents and delivering savings.
The main change residents will see from April 2014 will be the introduction of a new wheelie bin for plastic, glass and cans. There will be no change to the current collection days.
Veolia will take over services in two phases starting with the kerbside collection of recyclables and treatment of recyclable and non recyclable waste from next April.
In April 2019, they will take on the remaining services including the kerbside collection of green and non recyclable waste and the management of Community Recycling Centres. TWS will continue to manage all other services up until April 2019.
As part of the new contract, a new integrated waste management facility will be constructed on the Hortonwood industrial estate, subject to planning consent. The existing Halesfield site will be remodelled to improve the facilities offered.
Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “It has been an extensive and robust process to arrive at the point where we have appointed Veolia as our preferred bidder.
“To be able to offer Telford residents enhanced recycling and waste services while making significant contract cost savings is no mean achievement.”
Councillor Bill McClements, cabinet member for Finance and Enterprise, said: “Our procurement process has taken more than two years and we are confident Veolia will deliver a more cost effective service for every home in the borough. The new contract will help the Council save £30m.“
Estelle Brachlianoff, Veolia Environnement Executive Vice-President UK and Northern Europe said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the waste management services contract by Telford & Wrekin Council and look forward to working in partnership to deliver an efficient and cost effective service for local residents.”
