Seven people were this morning arrested after a series of arrests in Shropshire, Lancashire and the West Midlands.

Seven arrested over conspiracy to steal motor vehicles

Six men and a woman – were arrested at addresses in Shrewsbury, Birmingham and Accrington on suspicion of conspiracy to steal motor vehicles.

The low key arrests were made at around 7am this morning, police will be interviewing the suspects later today.

Speaking about the arrests, Superintendent Nav Malik said:

“We can confirm that these enquiries into conspiracy to steal motor vehicle offences have stemmed from the major, long-term drugs operation – Operation Sift - that we arrested more than 20 people in connection with back on 11 September.

“New information has come to light as a result of the arrests in September and that has led us to make these arrests today.

“We hope this morning’s activity demonstrate that West Mercia Police will continue to tackle organised crime and that we can change our focus if new evidence is found that we need to act upon.

“We also hope this reassures local people that we will take action when we become aware of problems in specific areas and I’d like to remind residents right across Telford and Shropshire that if they have any concerns about criminality in their area, they should call us immediately on 101 or 0300 333 3000.

“Alternatively, if you’d rather leave information without identifying yourself you can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
