Telford Town Park Arena wins national award
Telford & Wrekin Council’s QEII Fields In Trust Town Park Arena has won a prestigious national award for the Friends of Telford Town Park’s Jolly Green Day event earlier in the year.

The arena won the Best Have A Field Day With Join In award – one of the nine categories in the national Fields In Trust Awards 2013.
The award was presented at a special awards dinner at Lord’s Cricket Ground hosted by former England footballer Graeme Le Saux.
The Fields In Trust Awards aim to showcase and celebrate the organisations and individuals that have most fully engaged with the concepts of Fields In Trust.
The Have A Field Day with Join In category is for the site that has brought the community together most effectively to have fun on land which is protected.
The award was presented to representatives from the Friends of Telford Town Park by the runner David Moorcroft.
Chris Pettman, chairman of the Friends of Telford Town Park, said: “It’s been a brilliant year for the park and new investment has provided it with new facilities like the water play area and aerial ropes course which are attracting more and more new visitors to discover the Town Park.
“Jolly Green Day in August celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the formation of the Friends of Telford Town Park. The event engaged with volunteers from the Telford Green Spaces Partnership and was a resounding success.
“This award shows how valuable the work of these volunteers is and will help to raise the profile of the Town Park.”
Councillor Liz Clare, cabinet member for Leisure Services and Culture, said: “I am delighted that our arena has won the Have A Field Day award and congratulate everyone involved in the Town Park and particularly the Jolly Green Day event.
“These awards are a great way to recognise those who work hard to ensure their communities have protected outdoor recreational space.
“The Town Park attracts thousands of visitors to the borough each year and will play a key part in the unique leisure offer of Telford and Southwater.
“The Council is investing in the Town Park with attractions such as the new visitor centre, water play and aerial rope course open.
“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank the Friends of Telford Town Park for their continued support.”
Helen Griffiths, chief executive of Fields In Trust, said: “We created the Fields In Trust Awards to celebrate the enthusiasm and effort of councils such as Telford & Wrekin, who work hard to ensure their local green spaces are the best they can be for their local communities.
“The standard of applications was – as ever – high and we would like to congratulate the hard work by everyone at Telford Town Park.”
