Dawley Market returns to the High Street with official opening
Dawley Market has today officially launched its return to the High Street after it was moved a few years ago for highway improvements.

The market has been back on the High Street since 11 October thanks to an experimental change to the current traffic arrangements which has seen both the High Street and Burton Street become pedestrianised between the hours of 8am and 4pm each Friday.
David Wright MP and Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, Employment & Skills, and Chairman of Great Dawley Parish Council officially opened the market this morning.
In addition to the formal opening there was also music in the High Street, some of which in the morning was provided by local schools from the area.
Aqueduct, Captain Webb, Dawley C of E, Ladygrove, Lightmoor, Newdale and Old Park Primary Schools all sang carols and hymns as part of the ceremony.
To continue the festive theme of the event the Markets Team were also handing out mince pies, and the winners of the raffle prizes kindly donated by the market traders were announced.
Councillor Shaun Davies said: “I’m thrilled that the market is back on the High Street. We listened to the requests from local businesses and residents and are really pleased to have found a way to bring the market back.
“While there is so much development going on in the town centre at the moment with Southwater and the planned expansion of Telford Shopping Centre, it is important to remember that we still have many high streets in the borough offering local services to local people.
“We want our high streets to be busy, bustling places that people can easily access to get the services they need on their doorstep.
“Bringing the market back to Dawley High Street has been an important goal to bring people in and it’s working, the market has already seen a steady increase in market traders since the move which is in turn bringing more people back into the High Street.
David Wright MP added: “Markets have always been a big draw to local shopping areas and high streets and I’m really pleased that Dawley market has come back to the High Street and that I have been able to officially welcome it back today.”
