Motorists praised during drink-driving checks in Market Drayton
Police have praised motorists in Market Drayton after nearly 100 motorists underwent spot checks as part of a drink-drive campaign – and not one gave a positive breath test.

A total of 40 vehicles were stopped in Market Drayton last night in little more than an hour.
PC Hobden said: “Nearly everyone was co-operative and supportive of what we were doing. Not one person was arrested for drink-driving which was really encouraging.
“These checks are carried out to catch those drivers who ignore the law and put lives at risk by drinking and driving. Anyone suspected of having excess alcohol and gives a positive breath test is likely to end up in court with a driving ban and fine.
“But it was good news all-round last night. Not one person was over the limit.”
He said last night’s operation, conducted by a team of Special Constables and a Police Community Support Officer, followed a similar late-night check a few days earlier when 58 vehicles were stopped. Again, there were no positive breath tests.
“Hopefully, the message is getting through and people are realising the folly of drink driving,” PC Hobden added.
Spot checks are being carried out all over Shropshire during the Christmas/New year festive period, in towns and rural areas.
One driver was issued with a £90 fixed penalty last night for possession of cannabis and another received a warning for minor motoring offences.
