In Shrewsbury the stores launching their sales included Marks and Spencer, River Island, Perfume Shop, Monsoon, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Top Shop in what is expected to be the town’s biggest ever sales day.

Kevin Lockwood, Manager of the Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres, said: "Boxing Day is set to be another busy day as shoppers take advantage of the post-Christmas sales.

"If the last few weeks have been anything to go by, we expect to see the centres remain busy well into the sales and New Year period.”

The Perfume Shop, in the Darwin Centre, will open for the first time for several years and Manager Steph Geritz said: “The more shops that are open the better the day is for all of us.

“There are more open this year than ever before and that will make the day more successful and more enjoyable for everyone.”

At River Island manager Charlotte Buckley-Robins said: “Boxing Day is the busiest trading day of the year for us and we have extra staff in to cope.

“It’s one of the best days of the year and I really enjoy it when it’s busy like this. It goes really quickly.

“The late night shopping has been really successful here ansd there’s been a great atmosphere.”
