Firefighters were called to a smoke logged flat in Madeley yesterday after an automatic fire alarm was activated.

Crews responded to the automatic fire alarm in Hall Barn Close, Madeley, just before 3am, upon arrival they found the flat heavily smoke logged following a fire involving candles and Christmas cards.
The fire had burnt itself out and crews inspected the scene using a thermal image camera.
On Christmas Day a living room in Shrewsbury was damaged when a fire involving candles occurred whilst the occupier was out. The fire had burnt itself out and was only discovered when the occupier returned home to the property in Andrews Road, Radbrook.
A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “This is a reminder that although they add a warm ambience in the festive season, please take extra care and never leave candles unattended and always make sure your smoke alarms are working by testing them every week.”
