Telford & Wrekin residents urged to give feedback on budget proposals
Telford & Wrekin Council is urging people in the borough to give their views on its budget proposals which are now out for consultation.

The proposals include freezing council tax, already one of the lowest in the region, for the next two years and launching a two year £15m investment programme targeting two key concerns for local people – the environment and rising youth unemployment in the borough.
The Council must cut a further £22m by 2016 from its budget in the wake of continuing cuts in Government grant. This is in addition to the £51m of cuts already made by the Council since 2009/2010.
Cllr Bill McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council's cabinet member for finance and enterprise, said: “It is important that we hear everyone’s views on these budget proposals and I would encourage everyone to get involved whether this is online, through Your Voice or by coming to our special budget consultation event at the Oakengates Theatre at 6pm on January 29 – we want to know what you think.
“We have some very difficult decisions ahead because we cannot make the savings that we must find following further cuts in government funding without affecting services.
“But we believe this budget will help people from being squeezed by rising living costs, while over the next two years addressing two key areas that residents tell us are very important for them – creating greater pride in our borough by keeping our communities, clean and well maintained, together with investing in our roads and pavements and tackling the scourge of youth unemployment.”

The Council’s 2014/15 budget will set by the Council in early March.
