Telford & Wrekin Council’s Budget & Finance Scrutiny Committee are to look at the Council’s budget proposals including savings proposals for Adult Care services.

Council's Scrutiny Committee to review budget proposals

The cross-party scrutiny committee will also consider alternative budget proposals that will be put forward by the Council’s Conservative Group.

Scrutiny Chair Cllr. Shirley Reynolds, said: “The Council has to make some very difficult decisions about how to reduce expenditure whilst minimising the impact on services to bridge the £22m deficit created by reductions in government grant.

“The budget proposals are now being consulted on, but we have a duty to consider how the proposed spending commitments can be met within budget and the impact of any service changes for local people.

“We also want to look at how the Council plans its use of contingencies and balances, the capital programme and level of borrowing and the level of Council Tax proposed.

“We will also check how the Council consults with local people on the budget and how their views are listened to and taken into account.

“We must also give proper consideration to the proposals put forward by the Conservative Group.

“Our work is not about party politics – we will provide independent scrutiny of the proposals and make recommendations to Cabinet.”
