MP calls for fair funding for Telford & Wrekin

Telford MP David Wright has called on the Government to stop hitting the most deprived communities in the country the hardest with cuts.

MP calls for fair funding for Telford & Wrekin

Figures show that Telford & Wrekin Council is seeing cuts in funding in double figures while Conservative-run councils such as Surrey and Guildford are actually seeing increases in the funding

David Wright MP said: “The unfairness of the Tory-led Government’s funding cuts to our area is now clearer than ever. New figures from the latest local government finance settlement show that the council and local residents are getting a raw deal under David Cameron.

“Between 2010/11 and 2015/16 Telford & Wrekin Council will face a reduction of 13.2% in spending power per household, while councils in some of the wealthiest areas in the country will actually see an increase in their spending power per household over this period.

“David Cameron and Eric Pickles are living in a world of their own and stand up for the wrong people. I support Labour councillors who oppose this whilst local Tories roll over and accept anything the Government says.

“It’s tells you all you need to know about whose side the Tory-led Government is on. It’s simply wrong and we need a fair deal for the people of Telford & Wrekin.”
