No guarantee given on future of 24hr A&E services at PRH
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Leader has expressed his disappointment at the Health Secretary’s failure to provide any guarantee on the future of full 24 hour accident and emergency services at Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital.
Last year the Council’s three group leaders, Kuldip Sahota, Andrew Eade and Bill Tomlinson, wrote to the Rt. Hon. Jeremy Hunt, the Secretary of State for Health, to ask for reassurances over the future of 24 hour A&E services at the PRH.
The Council finally received a response from Jeremy Hunt late last month, which council leader Kuldip Sahota said was very disappointing.
Councillor Sahota has today written again to the Secretary of State urging him to rethink his position.
Councillor Sahota said: “After chasing a response from the Secretary of State for many months, I am very disappointed with his reply. It offers no reassurances or guarantees on the future of sustainable 24 hour A&E services at the PRH.
“This Council has committed to do all it can to secure this service at the PRH to reassure the people of Telford and Wrekin and the surrounding area, who want a full 24 hour A&E service at their hospital.
“I hope that we will be able to bring pressure to bear on the Secretary of State to make this commitment.”
