Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorist was punched in the face by two men as he sat in his car on the outskirts of Oswestry.

Motorist assaulted on the outskirts of Oswestry

The incident happened on the A483 at Mile End roundabout around 4.35pm on Monday.

The victim, a 49-year-old man was in a silver coloured Renault Megane estate which was stationary in a line of traffic on the approach to the island coming from the Wrexham direction.

He noticed a dark blue Peugeot, possibly a 206 model, pull up behind him, flashing its headlights.

Two men got out opening both front doors of his car and punched him repeatedly around the face before returning to their car.

Police Constable Dave Wagg, in appealing for witnesses, said it was an unprovoked assault.

The two men were wearing yellow fluorescent jackets. One was described as aged about 20 with dark hair. Following the assault, they drove off, exiting the roundabout towards Oswestry.

PC Wagg said: “The area was busy with other motorists at the time and I am appealing to anyone who saw any part of this incident, to contact Oswestry police station by calling 101, quoting the reference number 423s030214.”

The victim suffered slight injuries to his face and hand.
