A chef from the Adams Grammar School in Newport will today be competing in the regional final of the School Chef of the Year Competition in Stoke-on-Trent.

Chef Darren Barnes is one of three regional finalists competing for the title of LACA West Midlands School Chef of the Year 2014 in a cook off which will be held at Stoke-on-Trent College.

Darren’s finalist menu is child friendly fidget pie with glazed carrots & a fine bean bundle with chive sauce. The desert will be Baked Alaska served with a three fruit coulis

The tough Competition criteria puts the preparation, cooking, creativity and presentation skills of school chefs to the test. Each entrant is required to produce, in just one and a half hours, a healthy balanced two-course meal comprising of a main course and dessert that would appeal to eleven year olds in school. A maximum of £1.60p is allowed for the cost of a single meal including desert for one child.

The Competition is organised annually by Lead Association for CAtering in Education and is sponsored by MAGGI® from Nestlé Professional®. Ten Regional Finals will be held around Britain between January – March and each regional champion will go on to compete against each other at a National Final, scheduled for May 2014.
