Police investigating a series of house burglaries in the Market Drayton area have arrested a suspect and recovered items of property.

Stolen items recovered following arrest in Market Drayton

A 23-year-old local man was detained following a routine stop check in Frogmore Road on Tuesday afternoon.

When searched he was found to have several pieces of jewellery and other items thought to have been stolen. He was also carrying two chisels, gloves and a lock knife suspected of use in committing burglary.

Investigating officers issued pictures of some of the items recovered and are appealing for their owners to come forward.

Police Constable Rachael Shirley said: “There have been a number of recent burglaries in the Market Drayton area. Most of the offences have been in the late afternoon or early evening with the victims being mainly elderly people.

“On most occasions, entry has been forced but there has been at least one sneak-in burglary last weekend.”

She added: “We are still trying to trace the owners of the pictured items and are appealing for people to come forward if they recognise them. We believe they have been stolen from homes in the Market Drayton area in recent weeks.”

Anyone who can assist the police should contact PC Shirley or Detective Constable Lyndsey Howells in the Burglary Unit at Shrewsbury police station by calling 101.

The man arrested on suspicion of burglary was taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station and subsequently given bail while inquiries continue.
